Water Damaged Carpet Smell

To the naked eye, a rag. But there is much more in the tatters.
This seemingly unimportant piece of fabric was found in the bags of my grandma's things from over a year in a storage unit, among piles of bedding, family letters, various water-damaged bills, and other odds and ends . Yet I put it into my hands and brought it close to my face. The smell of Grandma's house came back to me- scents of Dial soap, laundry detergent, Pond's cold cream and Crabtree & Evelyn- as strong as if I were still standing in front of her linen closet, shag carpet in between my toes. It is amazing how powerful the sense of smell is, how it can take an ordinary piece of ripped woven fabric and transform it into a time machine.

Ready to visit IKEA on the weekend for an Expedit, sewing table & desk & for me to start to move the other furniture in here!
Yay to have the room back - smelling of fresh paint & new wool carpet instead of musty water damaged carpet after almost 1.5 years!!
